Learning Objectives

This course is intended for practicing radiologists and technologists. It will review the latest information on mammography, ultrasound, MRI, digital mammography, screening, biopsies and interventions. In addition, it will address issues regarding equipment, set up and performance of high quality digital mammography and MRI in a general radiology practice.

At the conclusion of this activity, participants should be able to:

Statement of Need

Our 10th Annual Advanced Breast Imaging and Interventions covers rapidly emerging technological advances and clinical challenges in breast imaging. Developing and identifying the correlations between mammography, ultrasound and MRI techniques has become increasingly important for accurate biopsies and evaluating and interpreting breast cancer lesions. Breast MRI evaluation of breast cancer, and the ability to biopsy MRI-detected breast lesions, are proving to be important tools for breast cancer detection. Digital mammography is emerging as a critical modality for breast cancer screening and technological advances such as tomosynthesis and CADS- computer-aided detection software, show promise in improving diagnostic outcomes. Establishing workflow programs in multimodality breast imaging centers is a difficult and arduous process, and expert opinion and guidance is needed. This course is modality and technology specific for breast cancer education and will provide direction for correctly developing and implementing a mammography practice given the new technologies and procedures. In addition to expert lectures and case studies, special interactive sessions will serve to address professional practice gaps and aid radiologists in clinical decision-making regarding difficult cases.
